Crystal’s $113 grocery purchases last week
If you are new here, I practice the Advance purchase principle – meaning what we buy each week is often for weeks to come. We stock the best deals and markdowns each week, which means we then have a variety of items from previous shopping trips to use when planning a menu.
With grocery prices rising, I decided to increase our grocery budget to $100 per week because I didn’t have enough wiggle room to stock up the way I would like. This amount will still challenge me to be creative while still giving me enough leeway to stock up and continue to practice the Buy Ahead principle.
In addition to practicing Advance purchase principleI Reverse Meal Plan. That means I plan based on what we have on hand and what good sales/markdowns I’ve found in stores. (Learn more about Reverse Meal-Planning here.)

It was a super full week last week, so I opted to do a grocery pickup order. I don’t get as many offers this way – since I can’t buy markdowns and the buyer doesn’t always do things exactly the way I envision – but it’s still a good option for stocking up sale items!
We had $128 left in the grocery budget for this week and here is what I bought:

I was especially happy for the $5.99 cheese bags and blocks (32 ounces each) – stocked up and got 7 bags/blocks! We already had two large bags of cheese in the freezer, so we should be on cheese for a while!
I was also excited about the raspberries/blackberries for $1.49 with the digital coupon, the sausages for $2.49 with the digital coupon, the 3 colored peppers for $2.49 with the digital coupon, and the pancake mix for $1.67.
We also had frozen pizzas and ice cream on hand as they were at very good prices.
My total at Kroger was just over $107.
Moreover, the 107 load bottle of laundry detergent I received on Black Friday for $5.24 shipped! So in total I spent around $113.
