In James Cameron’s career so far, he’s done exactly three sequels. A, Piranha II, was his first film. He gets a pass. The two others, aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, are unquestionably two of the best sequels ever made. Which is why, with only a few weeks until Cameron’s next movie – another sequel – you’d be totally justified in starting to get a little excited.

This sequel, of course, is Avatar: The Way of the Water, a sequel to Cameron’s 2009 film that remains the highest-grossing film of all time. And if Cameron’s track record with sequels isn’t enough to interest you, Disney has just what it takes. A brand new trailer has just been released which further opens up the world of the sequel and reveals that Cameron may well surpass. Which would say something.

In addition to this epic new trailer, tickets are now on sale for the film wherever tickets are sold and the original film is back on Disney+ after its successful theatrical re-release. There’s also a spooky new Snapchat filter and Amazon Alexa integration where if you say “Alexa, enable ‘Avatar’ theme” a whole bunch of stuff unlocks. You can also say “Alexa, teach me Na’vi” for another adventure.

Directed and co-written by Cameron, Avatar: The Way of the Water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet. It opens in theaters on December 16. The third still untitled Avatar The film is currently slated for release on December 20, 2024.
