Katmandu Park opens in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
A new theme park is coming to the Caribbean soon.
Kathmandu Park is set to open in early 2023 in Punta Cana, on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, entertainment development company Falcon’s Beyond announced this week.
The theme park promises to feature rides and attractions that will immerse visitors in the fantasy world of the Kathmandu franchise, with four star attractions, Falcon’s Beyond said in a statement.
The first Kathmandu park opened in Mallorca, Spain in 2012.
“Kathmandu Park | Punta Cana will deliver an unparalleled theme park experience based on popular characters from our very own Kathmandu fantasy universe,” Cecil D. Magpuri, CEO of Falcon’s Beyond, said in a press release. “Through innovative rides and attractions that deliver immersive and unparalleled storytelling, guests will truly get lost in the hidden realms of Kathmandu. Combined with other day and nighttime entertainment, dining and shopping, Kathmandu Park will provide a great for families and theme park lovers in Punta Cana’s premier resort.”

The park aims to be an alternative to the traditional “mega park” experience with a concept offering “world-class experiences in a smaller landscape”, according to Falcon’s Beyond.
The venue will include four main attractions that create an overarching storyline:
- Voyage of the Fathom Wanderer is a suspended theatrical attraction that will take guests on an underwater mission with a surprise ride element that will lift visitors into the air.
- Challenge of the Mad Mage is an interactive 4D theatrical attraction where guests are challenged to a blaster duel.
- Legend of the Desirata is a dark 4D attraction that will tell the origin story of Kathmandu by combining multiple projection screens, immersive sound, scenic elements and lighting effects.
- EtherQuest is an interactive attraction with an interactive game path.

Katmandu Park will include mini golf, an outdoor ropes course and indoor climbing courses.
Punta Cana is a popular tourist destination and a major resort in the Caribbean. Between January and September, more than 5.3 million people visited the Dominican Republicaccording to the country’s tourism ministry.
After Punta Cana, Falcon’s Beyond plans to open Katmandu Parks worldwide, with locations in Tenerife and the Canary Islands, Spain; and Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
