Literally 1984: Cambridge Dictionary adds new definition of “woman”

Literally 1984: Cambridge Dictionary adds new definition of “woman”

Before, I thought words mattered, but that’s not the case anymore. The progressive left has mastered the tactic of changing the nature of the well, nature, by simply adjusting the definition of words to match their narrative.

By keeping the pressure on society to adapt to the reality we live in, they have managed to erase decades of progress for various real progressive movements throughout history. The first thing they attacked was the gains made through the civil rights movement by telling everyone that color really matters and to say otherwise is bizarrely racist.

The next target was the feminist movement which has seen tremendous advances in equal rights for women and celebrating what it means to be a woman. Apparently what it means to be a woman is anything you want it to mean, including being a man.

‘Cause I’m just a girl

When I was a kid, I wanted to strangle my mother because since I could read, if I didn’t know the meaning of a word or how to spell it, she would tell me “go look it up,” which meant a trip to our trusty dictionary which took pride of place in the house.

This sacred tome contained a world of knowledge, and I never thought to question its contents.

Now you can’t even trust the dictionary.

The Cambridge Dictionary recently added a complementary definition to the word ‘woman’:

“An adult who lives and identifies as female although it may have been said that he was a different sex at birth.”

So many parts of that simple statement make me want to explode. First, the different gender they refer to is male, so basically a woman can be a man now.

I could take the small victory that at least they say you have to be a grown man to make this decision and not a child. However, the two sentences they provide as examples of how this definition is applied are even better:

“She was the first trans woman elected to national office.” & “Mary is a female who was assigned male at birth.”

They don’t even try to hide their agenda at this point.

This girl is on fire

To be fair to Cambridge Dictionary, they are not the first to adjust the definition of female. In July, Merriam-Webster added secondary definition to the feminine word:

“Having a gender identity that is the opposite of masculine.”

Although their fit is not as obvious as the Cambridge fit, it holds the fundamental problem of today’s world. We have blurred the concept of reality with the idea of being what you choose to be or, as the progressive left likes to call it, “identify yourself as”.

This cancer has spread through hateful expressions like “true self” or “their truth” or “their lived reality”. All of these phrases are meant to provide a false sense of enlightenment. It’s right there with “social justice.”

There is no truth other than the truth and no reality different from reality, just as there is no “social justice”; there is only justice. To add to the craziness, progressives have downplayed the very nature of women with similar absurd phrases.

The government, the medical community and the media have actively reduced the beauty of being a woman with expressions such as “pregnant people”, “people giving birth”, “people with wombs” and “bodies with vaginas”. If you are a woman, you should be insulted by this movement to try to minimize who we are.

Add to that the insinuation that men can have babies, menstruate, and go through menopause; it’s a miracle that more feminists don’t stand up.

You better think

If you haven’t realized how the extreme gender ideology movement and the progressive left are trying to silence your daughters’ voices and dim the light of their potential, you’re behind the times. It’s not just about words and language, it’s about women’s rights.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was actively fighting allow transgender athletes to compete with women in sporting events. Let me say that once again, the organization that was supposed to fight for the rights of minorities and the underserved, which once included women, is now fighting to allow men to compete in women’s sports.

When it broke out with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas I couldn’t believe how many people, including women, were saying it’s not that bad that our girls have to compete with men in their weekend football games. As if that was the only point to have.

Title IX was a significant victory for women in this country because it closed an educational gap for women and girls that male athletes didn’t have to worry about. Sports scholarships can mean the difference between going to college or not for many in this country, including women.

But it’s not just about having equal opportunities for women in sport, it’s also about safety.

Man! I feel like a woman

Harry Potter author JK Rowling probably took the most heat for speaking out against erasing women.

My favorite tweet his is:

“If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women around the world is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of gender robs many of the ability to meaningfully discuss their lives. It’s not hate to tell the truth.

If you blur the boundaries of science and biology, you take away the unique gifts and challenges of women on this planet. Yet, sadly, schools across the country have taken steps to create gender-neutral bathrooms, locker rooms and language, regardless of what that might mean for the girls in their schools.

Just this week, the former superintendent and spokesperson for Loudoun County Public School was charged after discovery of probe they lied about their knowledge of sexual assaults on girls in the toilets by a boy authorized to use the girls’ toilets. This news gives hope that reality prevails, but don’t get too comfortable.

Centers for Disease Control defines ‘breast feeding’ as:

“A term used by many trans people who identify as male to describe the act of feeding their baby from their chest, whether or not they have had chest or upper surgery.”

What happened to us to normalize the idea that men can breastfeed babies? Previously, if a man tried to suckle a baby with his nipples, it would be considered a crime; now it is an acceptable term in the CDC.

It’s a new generation

I’ll be 40 next year, and most of the time I still feel pretty young, but on days like today, I feel like a relic. I’ve spent my entire adult life being told by men what type of woman I should be, what I should look like, and how I should act.

I used to think that each generation of women had it easier than the last, thanks to the fights we fought for them. But, instead, I’m afraid my daughter will still be told by men what kind of woman she should be and how she should look and act – except those men will be allowed to say they know better because ‘they are a woman themselves.

Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire released a documentary titled What is a woman? and it was fascinating and terrifying. The worst part of it all was all the people who couldn’t define what a woman is, and that’s a sad commentary for where we are today.

I am a woman because of my chromosomes, the fact that I have the ability to give birth to new life, and the fact that I can sustain new life with my body. And I don’t care about my bad reputation as a true feminist who will never give up the fight against those who want to erase my existence so that men feel better about themselves.

Because that’s what this movement does, and they’re winning.
