Metro Leisure carves out a niche in tea tourism with Theme Resorts – The Island

Metro Leisure, the travel arm of the Metro Group of Companies of Colombo-06, recently ventured on another tour with a group of domestic travelers into the hills. Vacationers enjoyed a well-deserved vacation at one of the country’s newest hotels, the salubrious ‘Tea and Experience Factory’ operated by Theme Resorts Ltd in the hazy Mandaramnuwara district of Nuwara Eliya, set in a garden of lush tea.

An abandoned tea factory, one of the oldest in the country, has been converted into an exotic vacation spot. Metro Leisure travel director Bandula de Silva says these themed hotels have gained immense popularity among foreign and domestic vacationers.

“Discerning holidaymakers perceive it as an authentic experience of Sri Lankan tea culture, and it has become a much sought-after recreational experience for them. Also, they warmly embrace it as it is eco-friendly and sustainable nature-based tourism.

We believe this is the right time to pivot and go beyond scenic beauty, and highlight tea tourism in our unique tourism product portfolio. Metro Leisure is carving out a niche as a leader in this segment,” he said.
