Princeton’s Ivy League University Offers ‘Black Plus Queer in Leather’ BDSM Course – RedState
In the past, young people aspiring to prosper could take courses in leatherwork. These days, hardware is involved in teaching of a more raunchy sort.
Some of you may remember some easygoing choices from your college years. The tradition of classes such as “Underwater Basket Weaving” still persists. But times have changed, and the baskets and their construction are absolutely Amish. In 2022, universities are offering more contemporary rates.
Take, for example, Princeton University. Next spring, the private Ivy League research school will host classes on something fantastically dashing. The official website announces VIS 207/AAS 206/GSS 216 — “Black + Leather Queer: Black Leather/BDSM Material Culture.”
The description
Black Queer BDSM material culture resists contextualization over biographical narratives due to the underground elements of community. This course will explore the material culture of this community from three angles: architecture + place, visual artists and exhibitions, and Black Queer BDSM communities with a strong research focus on finding and presenting new materials. We will examine the fragility of archival engagement with these communities by examining existing BDSM archives in research libraries, community groups, and individuals and their personal ephemera.
The course will be taught by Tiona Nekkia McClodden, whose home page touts her as a “Princeton Arts Fellow and award-winning visual artist, filmmaker and curator”.

Decades ago, higher education was considered extremely sophisticated. And Ivy League schools have avoided unsightly displays related to salacious topics. But these days, it’s nice to be bold; and the institutions don’t mind being caught with their pants down.
