MANILA, Philippines — Mylène Paat unleashed 25 points to stop Chery Tiggo’s woes and knock out Choco Mucho, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19, boosting her chances in the semifinals at the Philippine Conference Premier Volleyball League 2023 Thursday at Philsports Arena.
Paat punched in 22 kills, two aces and a block to bring back the Crossovers’ winning ways after a three-game skid, while Pauline Gaston haunted her former side Choco Mucho, shattering their semi-final hopes after an hour and a half. 49 -minute game.
Gaston, who found her new home in Chery Tiggoshined as a starter with 12 points, 19 digs and 14 excellent receptions to help her team improve from a 4-3 record to fifth place.
“I just want to congratulate the ladies. They poured out their hearts. They trusted each other and we stayed true,” Chery Tiggo coach Aaron Velez said in Filipino. “I’m just grateful because [my players followed the] adjustments after everything we’ve been through in previous matches.
Chery Tiggo needs to win her last elimination game against Petro Gazz (5-2) and hopes the current No. 4 PLDT (4-2) will lose her last two games to enter the semi-finals.
Cza Carandang was also instrumental with 12 points, while Shaya Adorador added 10 points with EJ Laure seeing no action as Gaston stepped up.
Choco Mucho missed the semifinals for the third straight conference, despite a new system under coach Dante Alinsunurin.
Much like the last two conferences, the Flying Titans’ bid for the semi-finals ended before the game even ended when the Crossovers took a two-set lead, robbing them of their chances of earning enough points in the standings to reach the next round.
Kat Tolentino was Choco Mucho’s only bright spot with 16 points. Isa Molde had eight points, 16 digs and nine receptions, while Des Cheng also had eight goals and nine receptions.
