The director clarifies the DC rumor mill
Patty Jenkins has been talked about a lot in recent months. First with the withdrawal from her star wars film, Thieves Squadronof the Disney schedule, and then the even more shocking news that wonder woman 3 had been canceled by DC.
Over the past week, various reports have surfaced about how and why the film was canceled, but no one had heard of Jenkins herself. So far. The director took it on Twitter say she tried everything to move wonder woman 3 forward and that it continues to actively develop it star wars pilot movie, Thieves Squadron. Here is the statement.
The main takeaways here from a news perspective are as follows. One, Jenkins says she stopped working on Thieves Squadron because she feared it would conflict with wonder woman 3. The understanding, however, was that she would come back afterward and make a new deal to do it. Apparently, this film, although no longer on the release schedule, is still in development. io9 has contacted Lucasfilm about these claims and will update this story if and when we hear.
Jenkins also contradicts conflicting reports about how wonder woman 3 has been cancelled. Early reports said she was surprised by it. Another said she walked away herself. Now here she claims it’s a bit of both, that she wanted to carry on but was told there was no way forward and moved on.
G/O Media may receive a commission
Which, unfortunately, still leaves fans without wonder woman 3 by Jenkins and Thieves Squadron in limbo. But you can tell from the statement that Jenkins feels bad about the whole thing because she knows what Wonder Woman means to fans. It means a lot to her too.
