Twitter will relaunch a revamped version of its subscription service Twitter Blue at a higher price for Apple users on Monday, the company said. said in a tweet Saturday.
The revamped service will allow subscribers to edit tweets, upload 1080p videos and get a blue tick after account verification. Twitter hasn’t explained why Apple users are being charged more than others on the web, but media outlets have reported that the company is looking for ways to offset fees charged in Apple’s App Store.
The blue tick was initially given to companies, celebrities, government entities and journalists verified by the platform. After Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, he launched a service giving blue checks to anyone willing to pay $8 a month. But it was inundated with accounts of imposters, including those impersonating Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, so Twitter suspended the service days after it launched.
The revived service will cost $8 per month for web users and $11 per month for iPhone users. Twitter says followers will see fewer ads, be able to post longer videos, and have their tweets highlighted better.
