Who won yesterday’s match in IPL 2023?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 50 runs in yesterday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 game at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Sent to bat after losing the toss, Lucknow posted a competitive 193/6 on the board as Kyle Mayers played with a scintillating 73 on just 38 balls. Mark Wood then crossed the Delhi stick with outstanding numbers of 5/14 as the chase team were held at 143/9.

Beating first, the skipper of Lucknow KL Rahul perished for 8, sending a slower ball from Chetan Sakariya to the deep back square leg. Mayers, who got off to a slow start, could have been dropped in sixth on Sakariya’s bowling, but Khaleel Ahmed dropped a simple hold in the ring.

Mayers made Delhi pay for the reprieve. In the very next, he threw Mukesh Kumar for two sixes. He ran until his half century with only 28 balls IPL start, sweeping Kuldeep Yadav for a deep back square leg six over.

After clubbing three more highs in the next two overs, his superb shot ended when he was cleared by a sharply spun Axar Patel delivery. Late in the innings, Nicholas Pooran (36 of 21) and Ayush Badoni (18 of 7) played handy cameos to lift KJV past 190.

Chasing 194, Delhi ran 40/0 in four overs before Wood struck twice in his opening overs. He cleared Prithvi Shaw (12) and Mitchell Marsh (0) with fast deliveries on consecutive balls. Sarfaraz Khan (4) tried to cut a short ball from the LSG pacer but got tangled up and was caught in the thin and deep leg.

David Warner (56 of 48) and Rilee Rossouw (30 of 20) attempted a save, but the latter fell on Ravi Bishnoi after hitting the leggie for three fours and a six. Warner raised a patient fifty. However, DC had fallen behind in the hunt by then. The Delhi captain’s innings ended when he missed a slower ball from Avesh Khan from long range.

Wood then returned to complete a memorable five-wicket run. He caught Axar (16) square leg deep, while Sakariya (4) missed a ball from length at midwicket court.
